2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 and CLA45 Edition 55 models announced for Australia

In celebration of 55 years of AMG, Mercedes-Benz is rolling out a pair of special-edition models from its compact performance car range.

Mercedes-Benz has announced Edition 55 versions of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 S and Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S will hit Australian showrooms before the end of 2022.

Building on the regular ’45 S’ mechanical package of the standard cars, both will be powered by an unchanged 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, rated at 310kW and 500Nm, driving through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to AMG’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

Edition 55 touches for the new variants include lower door decals featuring the traditional AMG logo up front, fading into the AMG rhombus logo at the rear. A set of 19-inch cross-spoke forged alloy wheels in titanium grey fill the arches, with Edition 55 laurel wreath centre caps.

Exterior paint options are limited to Cosmos Black Metallic or Digital White Metallic.

Externally, the Edition 55 models feature either the AMG Night Package, or Night Package II, with black finishes on the rear badges, window-line trim, front splitter, mirror caps and air intake louvres. Black chrome covers the exhaust tips and grille inserts.

As part of the included AMG Aerodynamics Package, cars will also be equipped with a rear spoiler (a lip on the CLA, or high-rise on the A-Class), a larger front splitter, front bumper flics, and ‘simulated’ air outlets and in the rear bumper diffuser blades.

Hidden from view, owners will also get to enjoy a silver AMG-branded fuel filler. Mercedes-Benz will also include an AMG-branded indoor car cover, embellished with a silver AMG logo.

Inside, the Edition 55 models feature black and red leather interior trim. Illuminated AMG sill panels with red lighting, an Edition 55 ingot on the Dinamica (suede-look) AMG Performance steering wheel, and Edition 55 embroidery in red on the floor mats round out the package.

The AMG A45 S and CLA45 S Edition 55 models join an array of 55th anniversary models, including the less powerful A35 and CLA45 models at the lower end of the range, and a flagship G63 Edition 55 positioned as a halo model.

Arrival timing for the Edition 55 range is set for the end of 2022, with Mercedes-Benz Australia keeping pricing up its sleeve until closer to launch.
