The Infiniti EX was once a luxury crossover SUV that qualified among the top 10 luxury SUVs. It was a fine car, with a decent caliber of performance and a decent interior. But the EX title only stayed in business for 5 years.
In 2013, the company changed the nomenclature and joined the newly calibrated QX series. And the very new title given to the car was QX50. Well, the Japanese market knew it as the Nissan Skyline crossover.
In practice, this series started in 2007. In theory, the QX50 came out in 2013. Unlike the EX, the QX50 didn’t deserve an award. Although it has a better drive mechanism and even smoother interior details. But its competitors have grown far better. Certainly it has a minimal chance of being celebrated.
Well, the first generation of the QX50 ran until 2018. And over time, it only received a single facelift in 2015. Also, no major changes were made to this car. While this new second generation has a completely different structure, it is similar to the other QX series SUVs.
The very first display was made in 2016 after another powerful concept was unveiled in 2017. While the production version is very similar to the 2017 concept, it was unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2019 model. And in late 2018, Infiniti started booking deliveries for the new generation.
In addition, the Infiniti QX50 is available in 6 trim levels, starting with Pure, Luxe and Essential. The entry-level model is available for $36,550.

The huge V6 engines were phased out in favor of a 4-cylinder machine. And there is no powerful power mechanism available for this car. Well, the second generation gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged Nissan KR engine, which is used evenly in Altima.
Here this machine puts out 268 horsepower with 280 lb-ft of torque. In addition, it receives the variable compression system, which systematizes the movement of the pistons. In addition, the continuously variable transmission is the only transmission system available for this car.
Putting a turbocharger on a 4-cylinder machine is certainly smart. However, it would not come close to the performance of a naturally aspirated V6 engine. Well, the turbocharger appears sluggish when kicked from a standstill. And it feels like the mechanism is overloaded. But during a steady ride, the system operates smoothly and doesn’t really lag behind the flow.
The Infiniti QX50 can be expected to launch from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. And the best it could do is 140 mph. Besides, it can offer 27 mpg as combined fuel economy. Although it seems economical. But some of its competitors could save a lot more fuel.
Front-wheel drive is standard on this car. While all-wheel drive remains optional. And the performance rating is almost similar for both variants. But the fuel consumption is slightly different, resulting in a better result in FWD.
The QX50 has some very fine handling abilities. The steering is agile and neatly packaged, making it steer fairly smoothly. But the sharp turns could challenge the car’s grip. Well the 0.86g is the tested road grip with a braking distance of 164ft from 70-0mph.

The exterior has been designed effortlessly. Details were taken from the other QX models and adapted for this car. Like the headlight design, which is similar in style to the QX60, and the front grille, which is the same on all models. Additionally, the QX50 features LED lamps, 19-inch wheels, LED taillights, and a few other nifty cosmetics inherited from its siblings.

The interior is nicely crafted from quality leather and suede. In addition, the ambient lighting and many practical spots contribute to the comfort of the interior. Well, the seats are amazingly comfortable, which could benefit any type of trip equally. Best of all, the QX50 seats 5 people including the driver. In front of it there is even a lot of space for luggage. Surely the package could be enough for a long journey.

The QX50, like most other Infinitis, gets a dual-screen infotainment system. Here, the top 8-inch screen is used for navigation. While the lower 7-inch screen is dedicated to the rest of the operations such as multimedia and smartphone connectivity. Also, common features include voice recognition, SiriusXM, smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth and telephony.
A 6-speaker sound system is standard on the base models. A powerful Bose sound system with 16 loudspeakers is available for the upper trim levels. Additional features also include hands-free tailgate control and remote engine start.

Safety standards were followed fairly scrupulously. The QX50 incorporates various driving dynamics required by today’s drivers. And everything is aligned quite intelligently. First, the passive safety equipment satisfies the safety requirements. While the active safety panel includes the anti-lock braking system and vehicle stability control. In addition, the driving dynamics include emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and the head-up display.

The QX50 easily competes for the interior of the Audi Q5. Even the exterior design is remarkable on both cars. But the Audi Q5 can certainly outperform the QX50. And it even gets a decent notch of powertrain options.
The QX50 is certainly a good option when something to show off is needed. Even the comfort level is certainly above many of its competitors. While the performance is not much to rely on.
