2019 Suzuki Vitara

How many times have you seen a Suzuki car roll into downtown? Yes, you must have seen a bandit or rarely come across the Hayabusa. But you’ll never have seen a Vitara in North America. Because Suzuki doesn’t really bring much of their cars here. Well, there are some nice inclusions in their production line that are worth noting. And underneath is the Vitara.

Six years ago we ran into a very disappointing story that Suzuki would no longer sell cars in the US and Canada. What we are left with are the motorcycles, ATVs and the outboard motors. But the rest of the world is still enjoying the rush of Suzuki cars.

In 1988, Suzuki introduced Vitara, badged as a sidekick, and brought it to North America. This vehicle was the first of its kind to sit on the smaller cars that Suzuki used to produce. And quickly became one of the company’s best-selling cars. Well, the Vitara became so famous that General Motors rushed to Suzuki to rebrand this car as the CAMI. Chevrolet got it as a tracker, and the Spaniards renamed it the Santana 300.

That was a Pandora’s box opened for Suzuki in the face of Vitara. But during its third generation, North American sales fell below average. As a result, Suzuki disbanded its auto division from the region.

Before that, the fourth generation is the running version of this car. And it was launched back in 2015. While the 2018 Vitara has been revised for the 2019 model year. Also, the Suzuki Vitara starts at $22,400 and the top model sits at $29,700.

The Vitara is available with three powertrains, all of which are economical and have some decent performance logs. Well, the smallest caliber among all is the 1.4-liter four-cylinder booster jet turbo engine. The smallest, but most powerful version of the whole series. This machine offers 140 horsepower with an ideal torque of 162 lb-ft. Also, it is equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shifts. Well, if the manual gearbox had existed for this variant, Vitara would have outperformed some of its competitors. Before that, the front-wheel drive layout is standard. While all-wheel drive is available as an option.

The naturally aspirated 1.6L 4-pack is available as a base ingredient in entry-level trim levels. With this engine, you get 120 horsepower producing 115 lb-ft of torque. While the 5-speed manual comes as the standard transmission system.

The Suzuki Vitara is also available with a diesel engine. In return, it gets a 1.6 L DDiS 4-cylinder engine with 120 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque. While it sits comparatively on the same par as the base-tier petrol engine. But with this powertrain, you can maximize economy and hit the best and the worst.

When it comes to handling, the Vitara is just as good as a base sedan. Agile but not so fancy that it could become an off-road companion. But the turbocharged models have some better driving characteristics.

2019 Suzuki Vitara exterior

The Suzuki Vitara has a stylish exterior design. The way it looks is simple but attractive. While his competitors are way curvier and sexier than him. The Vitara looks like an elegant luxury SUV, reduced to a small-format crossover. In addition, the exterior cosmetics include 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome front grille, LED DRL and LED headlights. Before, if you closely observe the Vitara’s facade, it would look like a Land Rover badged as Suzuki.

The interior is nice but looks very old school. You might even agree after sitting in a Honda or Toyota crossover SUV. Also, the base variant of the Vitara gets the cloth-trimmed seats, fiber trim, and a couple of cup holders. The mid-range equipment also offers the split folding rear seats and some other practical functions such as a glove compartment. While the finest trim level gets suede seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, and many other features.

Features of the Suzuki Vitara 2019

The Vitara has a handy touchscreen infotainment system that comes with plenty of decent features. Some notable ones are Bluetooth streaming, telephony, smartphone connectivity, and navigation. In addition, it includes the DAB radio configuration and each model receives an audio system with 4 speakers. While the top trim level also gets 2 tweeters and the keyless entry.

2019 Suzuki Vitara Safety

The Euro NCAP awards 5 stars for the safety of the Vitara. Though sturdy in style while safer inside. Well, this car is equipped with a sufficient number of airbags, adjustable seat belts and ISOFIX for the child seats. In addition, Vitara has the hill start assistant, tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control and speed limiter. Many other active safety features are also included, such as stability and traction control. In South Asia, Suzuki considers adding airbags to cars to be a tremendous achievement.

Daihatsu Terios

The very similar Daihatsu Terios is one of the closest competitors for the Suzuki Vitara. Well, the Terios doesn’t really come close to the Vitara’s performance figures. But the design concept of both cars makes them a competitor.

The Vitara did everything right. The powertrains are a requirement, the styling is understated and the off-road capability is there too. And the Vitara is even more economical. If you are looking for a family SUV, the Vitara is certainly a good choice.
