Rigid 18V Digital Inflator R87044

Ridgid Digital Inflator presents a helpful solution

The Ridgid 18V Digital Inflator (R87044) has all the features you could want in a cordless inflation tool. It features an easy-to-read, easy-to-adjust digital gauge, integrated and easily accessible accessories, and a motor that Ridgid claims offers the fastest truck tire inflation from flat to full. It’s also quite cheap at around $69.

Recommendation

The Ridgid 18V Digital Inflator impresses with a large, easy-to-see display and an auto-fill setting. We particularly liked the hybrid power options. Getting just the right pressure takes a bit of back and forth, but it’s not enough effort to dissuade us from recommending this quick, easy-to-use inflator.

Easy mode tire inflation

Ridgid created the 18V Digital Inflator to take all the hassle and guesswork out of tire inflation. From the high-visibility digital display and dial to the quick-disconnect chuck, everything about the R87044 screams “user-friendly”.

Hybrid Power

As for the power supply, you have a couple of options – battery and 12V. Both of them make this tool quite convenient to use.

With the Ridgid Digital Inflator designed for cordless convenience on the brand’s 18V battery platform, that’s most likely the direction you’ll be going most of the time. This is especially true if you already use Ridgid tools and batteries. The battery also gives the inflator a stable base that allows you to park it in an upright position.

However, Ridgid also includes a 12V power cord that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket. This opens up the R87044 for people who have either not opted for the Ridgid battery platform, or for those just looking for an inflator to keep in the trunk for emergencies. The 12v cable is long enough to get you within inflating distance of all your tires with ease.

Set up Ridgid R87044

Once you’ve settled on a power source, Ridgid’s 18V digital inflator makes hooking it up to your object to be inflated super easy. It features a quick-disconnect chuck that eliminates the need for time-consuming threading. The only concern here would be the wear and tear of the plastic parts over time. We’ve gotten pretty used to using the threaded nozzle on the Ryobi Dual-Function Inflator.

Press-on inflation valve

Whether connecting directly to a valve stem or to one of the adapters provided, always press the coupler firmly onto the threads and slide the sleeve forward to lock the connection.

While the quick connect chuck makes inflation very easy, for an accurate measurement you should make sure your connection is secure. Early on in our experience with the R87044, we were frustrated by the inconsistency of the pressure gauge and auto-inflation. As it turns out, gripping the clutch firmly as it engages fixes this issue.

Ridgid’s 18 volt digital inflator comes with a ball fill needle, brass Presta chuck and inflator nozzle. All this, along with the 20 inch hose, conveniently stows on board the tool.

Pricing for Ridgid R87044 Inflator

You can equip the Ridgid R87044 18V Digital Inflator either as a bare tool or with a 2.0Ah battery and charger. As a tool-only, it should set you back $69, while the kit only tacks on another $30 for a grand total of $99.

Whichever option you choose (the kit is a bargain), the inflator comes with a 12V vehicle power cable, quick connect chuck, ball-fill needle, brass Presta chuck and inflator nozzle.
