Ryobi 18V One+ HP Brushless 1/4″ Right Angle Straight Grinder

Ryobi introduces the world’s first 18 volt cordless ambidextrous die grinder

The Ryobi 18V One+ HP Compact 1/4″ Brushless Angle Die Grinder (PSBDG01) promises a convenient cordless alternative to its pneumatic counterpart. Considering it’s the world’s first 18V cordless angle model, we wanted to know if it’s time to ditch the air hose and compressor.

Ryobi cordless angle grinder performance

Need speed

The Ryobi HP brushless motor tops out at 22,000 rpm, which is nothing special. In fact, that’s slightly higher than many pneumatic models. There are a few high-end, professional-quality straight grinders that are a few thousand rpm higher, but this one should work fine in most situations.

With the 4-level speed control you can set exactly the speed you need for the job – between 10,000 and 22,000 rpm. The trigger has variable speed, giving you extra control in each mode.

At these speeds, you can confidently tackle buffing and sanding projects, or even sharpen your dull mower blades, without turning off the compressor. As an added bonus, it’s also quieter than the pneumatic models we’ve used.

Design notes for Ryobi cordless angle grinders

Height and weight

The profile of this cordless straight grinder is slightly larger than its pneumatic counterparts, but it’s not outrageously bulky considering it’s a cordless tool.

Ryobi 18V die grinder size

Barely it is 7.69 inches tall and 9.75 inches tall with a 4.0Ah battery. That’s really not a bad thing considering you don’t have to worry about an air hose dragging behind the tool.

They also managed to keep the weight to a minimum. At just 3.25 pounds. With a 4.0Ah battery, it’s incredibly maneuverable and easy to handle. It’s even better if you upgrade to a more compact 2.0Ah battery.

The right angle design takes on the Ryobi stick pack battery design in a similar way to their drills and impact wrenches. The head tilts up slightly to accommodate the protruding battery. With the head parallel to the ground, the entire collet extends past the battery and we had no issues with clearance.

Trigger design

The paddle-style trigger harks back to traditional pneumatic straight grinders, including the spring-loaded finger safety. It adds a little extra level of security as well as a level of familiarity if you’re coming from the pneumatics world.

Additional functions

  • Foot mounted LED light
  • lanyard loop
  • Spindle lock under the collet
  • Compatible with all Ryobi One+ batteries that power more than 225 products

Ryobi cordless angle grinder price
