Ryobi 18V One+ Wireless Orbital Buffer Review PCL460

Ryobi expands the 18V One+ car care range with a 2-speed wireless orbital buffer

Here in Central Florida, leaving a coat of wax on your car to protect your car’s paintwork from the intense sun’s rays is almost a necessity. However, it’s that very sun that’s keeping some of us, including me, from going out and hand-waxing our cars. Luckily, Ryobi’s 18V wireless orbital buffer is here to speed up the process and give your hands a rest.

Performance of Ryobi’s 18V wireless orbital buffer

2 Speed Motor

controls

This orbital buffer features a 2-speed brushed motor that oscillates the pad at 3,000 OPM on low and 4,600 OPM on high. The speed switch is located on top of the handle and conveniently within thumb reach, allowing you to change speeds on the fly. The slower speed is best for applying the polishing product, while the high speed is for buffing.

Application Hoods

Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Orbital Buffer Review

Ryobi includes an application hood and a polishing hood. These hats slide over the foam pad for a secure fit. Apply the recommended amount of product evenly to the pad and you’re good to go. For best results, make sure the surface is clean and dry.

Both the application and the polishing/polishing hoods are reusable. For maximum life and performance, it is best to remove and hand wash after use, then allow to air dry. The hats are machine washable with cold water and a small amount of detergent and then machine dried on a low setting.

Are you waxing your grill ???

barbecue waxes

If you’re not waxing your grill, you should be. At least the painted parts. Just like your car, regular cleaning and waxing will help the paint last and look its best. If you’re willing to put in the work, apply a quality car wax every 3 months.

Ryobi 18V Battery Orbital Buffer Design Notes

Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Orbital Buffer Review

The overall profile of this orbital buffer is very similar to its predecessor, the Ryobi P430, but with a few helpful modifications. It weighs 2.8 pounds as a bare tool and 3.7 pounds when paired with an 18V 2.0Ah battery. The tool body measures 7.5 inches and is only 7 inches high, so it is definitely more compact than your standard 10 inch puffer.

Ryobi’s lightweight, compact design gives you better accessibility and comfort when working on contoured or detailed surfaces. The D-handle and tool body feature a textured rubber coating that gives you an improved grip when using this buffer.

One thing we really like about the D-handle design is that it gives you better control and also extends your working range.

Ryobi 18V battery orbital buffer price

This buffer is available at your local Home Depot and retails $44.97 as a tool only and $89.97 as a kit with a 2.0 Ah battery and charger. Ryobi also covers this buffer with a 3-year warranty.

The Final Result

Ryobi’s wireless orbital buffer delivers great results with a design and feature set that suits all skill levels. Although it lacks the efficiency of a brushless motor, the attractive price point is hard to ignore when compared to other brushless models on the market. If you’re looking to replace your old wired buff or just get tired of hand waxing, Ryobi has your back.
